Our elk ranch has been under one ownership for the past 63 years! during that time it has received minimal hunting pressure and has certainly developed into a premier property for hunting big elk. currently the ranch functions as a cattle operation, which showcases registered red angus. there are no other commercial or work related activities which make it perfect habitat for herds of cow elk and plenty of bulls.
A majority of the ranch is composed of low-lying hay meadows, creeks, and oak brush flats that transition into steeper hillsides of dark timber. be prepared to navigate all these types of terrain, as elk can move from low feeding areas in the morning to the cover of dark timber for the majority of the day. our approach is generally more relaxed, utilizing patience and caution rather than more aggressive tactics, but be prepared to move.
bulls generally range between 320"-350", but larger bulls have been harvested and many more seen. The ranch's fundamental success stems from a large population of cows that occupy the ranch throughout the year. when late August rolls around bulls begin to transition from the higher, cooler basins to the lower meadows to prepare for the rut. with a resident herd of 200-300 cows, it's only a matter of time before big bulls start showing up.
