Trip Planning

Everything you need to plan the trip itself: where to fly into, how long each hunt runs, where you will stay, and what happens to your meat once the hunt is over. If something here does not answer your question, call 970.580.0441 or email hunt@sandyhillshunting.com.

Getting here

Which airport should I fly into?

For all of our Colorado hunts, fly into Denver International Airport (DEN) or Colorado Springs Airport (COS). For aoudad hunts in west Texas, fly into Midland International Air and Space Port (MAF), which serves Midland and Odessa, or El Paso International Airport (ELP).

Do I need a rental car?

Yes. Our clients rent a car at the airport and drive to meet us.

When should I arrive?

Plan to arrive the afternoon or evening before your hunt starts. Mountain lion hunts work differently, see below.

How long are the hunts?

  • Antelope: 3 days.

  • Archery deer on the eastern plains: 6 days.

  • Elk, black bear, turkey, bison and aoudad, plus mule deer and whitetail hunts other than archery on the eastern plains: 5 days.

  • Mountain lion: we book six-day hunts but may break a hunt into two portions if necessary, which helps success rates. The ideal lion client has a flexible schedule and can arrive on relatively short notice, 24 to 48 hours.

Where will I stay?

Southern Colorado hunts

You stay in our lodge or ranch house and have your own room. We have a cook, and meals are provided. Both are included in the rate for southern Colorado hunts.

Eastern plains hunts

Meals and lodging are not included on eastern plains hunts. Most of our clients stay at a very nice Airbnb near our hunting area. Ask us and we will point you to it.

West Texas aoudad hunts

Meals and lodging are included.

Turkey and bison hunts

Turkey hunts include lodging but not meals. Bison hunts include neither. For what every rate includes, see Hunt Rates.

Meat and trophies

What happens to my meat?

You have three options. Most clients use a local processor and have their meat shipped home. We can also process your meat for shipping for a fee. And if you drive in, you can bring coolers and take your meat home to be processed there.

What about my trophy?

We cape your trophy and can recommend taxidermists.
