WHAT TO EXPECT

HUNTING:

OUR HUNTS ARE CONDUCTED ON PRIVATE RANCHES THROUGHOUT THE EASTERN PLAINS OF COLORADO. WE LEASE AND HAVE PERMISSION TO HUNT HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF ACRES in many different units. ON A TYPICAL DAY AT SANDY HILLS ONE OF OUR GUIDES WILL PICK YOU UP BEFORE DAYLIGHT AND PROCEED TO AREAS WHERE WE HAVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY SEEING ANTELOPE THAT MEET SHHC REQUIREMENTS. AT DAYLIGHT WE WILL BEGIN GLASSING OVER SUCH AREAS AS PASTURE LAND, TALL GRASS CRP FIELDS, AND/OR ROUGH CANYON COUNTRY.  IT IS OUR GOAL TO FIND THE BIGGEST BUCK POSSIBLE AND MAKE THE BEST PLAN TO BE SUCCESSFUL. AT SANDY HILLS WE STRIVE TO HARVEST MATURE ANTELOPE IN THE 75" RANGE AND UP, WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF REACHING 82 INCHES OR MORE. CLIENTS CAN EXPECT TO SIT OVER A WATER HOLE/STOCK TANK OR SPOT AND STALK. BEING PHYSICALLY FIT TO WALK, CRAWL, KNEEL, AND SIT FOR MODERATE PERIODS IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING PREVENTING YOU FROM ACCOMPLISHING ONE OR MORE OF THESE TASKS, GIVE US A CALL AND WE CAN DISCUSS YOUR OPTIONS. ADDITIONALLY, OUR CLIENTS ARE ALWAYS CURIOUS OF WHAT THEY CAN EXPECT FOR SHOT RANGES. IT'S DIFFICULT TO PREDICT AN UNKNOWN SITUATION, BUT WE PREFER TO MAINTAIN 20-60 YARD SHOTS WITH A BOW, UP TO 100 YARDS WITH A MUZZLELOADER, AND OUT TO 500 WITH RIFLES. WE CAN DISCUSS LONGER SHOT SITUATIONS IF YOU'RE COMFORTABLE, BUT TYPICALLY IT'S NOT NECESSARY.

our SERVICES:

hunts include a 1:1 or 2:1 hunter to guide ratio depending on how you book. we will transport you for the duration of your hunt, provide you with professional hunt photos, cape your trophy, and make recommendations on game processors and taxidermists. On eastern plains hunts, guides will have snacks and water, but meals and lodging are not included in the hunt price. On southern Colorado hunts, meals and lodging are included.

LICENSE process:

Colorado uses a preference point system for drawing licenses in limited units. Each unit and season require a different number of preference points to draw a license. An applicant can apply for one preference point each year per species. Antelope license requirements vary by unit, season and weapon, so tell us which hunt you are interested in and we will confirm exactly what it takes to draw and whether a landowner voucher is available for it. How licenses and draws work.

BOOKING process:

we generally have room for individuals wishing to hunt with us, but spots typically fill by mid-summer. please book your hunt as early as possible to ensure that you get a spot.

TROPHY CLASSES:

We strive to harvest mature antelope in the 75-inch range and up, with the possibility of reaching 82 inches or more. Our antelope harvest galleries are organized by trophy class: 70 to 75 inches, 75 to 80 inches, and 80 to 90 inches.

RATES:

We offer antelope hunts in two areas, and what is included depends on which you hunt. Eastern plains antelope hunts run $2,500 to $17,500 per hunter, with meals and lodging not included. Southern Colorado antelope hunts run $3,500 to $18,000 per hunter, with meals and lodging included. Landowner vouchers are quoted separately. See all hunt rates.

SEASONS AND HUNT LENGTH:

We guide archery, muzzleloader and rifle antelope hunts, and every antelope hunt is 3 days. Season dates are listed at the top of this page.

GETTING HERE AND LODGING:

Fly into Denver or Colorado Springs, rent a car, and plan to arrive the afternoon or evening before your hunt starts. On eastern plains hunts lodging is not included; most clients stay at a very nice Airbnb near our hunting area, and we will point you to it. On southern Colorado hunts you stay in our lodge or ranch house with your own room, and our cook provides meals. Plan your trip.

MEAT AND TROPHIES:

Most clients use a local processor and have their meat shipped home. We can also process your meat for shipping for a fee, and if you drive in, you can bring coolers and take your meat home to be processed there. We cape your trophy and can recommend taxidermists.

COMMON ANTELOPE QUESTIONS:

How do you hunt antelope? Clients can expect to sit over a water hole or stock tank, or to spot and stalk.

How far are shots? We prefer to keep shots to 20 to 60 yards with a bow, up to 100 yards with a muzzleloader, and out to 500 yards with a rifle.

How far ahead should I book? We generally have room, but spots typically fill by mid-summer, so book as early as you can.
