EVERY YEAR WE GET questioned BY OUR CLIENTS on WHAT TO BRING AND HOW TO PREPARE. THIS CERTAINLY VARIES FROM HUNTER TO HUNTER AND THeiR PREFERRED hunting SYLES, BUT THERE ARE SEVERAL THINGS THAT SEEM TO BE UNIVERSAL. COLORADO weather patterns are very unpredictable, and CAN change ABRUPTLY from day to day. Even if your hunt is planned for late summer or early FALL, we recommend you bring one full set of warm hunting clothes, including some type of insulated underwear and quality rain gear. The best way to dress is in layers, and to avoid the heavy and bulky items.
**Gratuities are not included in the hunt price. Gratuities indicate how the guide performed and are much appreciated (Gratuities range from 10-15% of the total hunt cost on average)**
**If blood is drawn on an animal you are hunting it is considered a kill, and we will continue to pursue that specific animal for the remainder of your hunt. It is very important that you come prepared and confident in your shooting ability and your equipment**
As per personal items – it is recommended that you bring at least 2 times the required stay days for prescriptions and daily-required medicines for the duration of your trip to colorado. These should also NOT be packed in your luggage, but taken as carry-on to avoid lost baggage delays.
Stalking:
be prepared to walk, walk bent over, crouch, kneel, crawl, and belly crawl. crawling and belly crawling are most common on our archery and muzzleloader hunts, but do happen on occasion during rifle hunts.
getting in position can be a tedious task. in order to maximize your success, it is imperative that you follow our instruction. if there are any reasons that prevent you from following certain instructions, let us know and we'll make adjustments.
stalking situations are more pleasant if pants are equipped with knee pads, gloves have leather reinforced palms, thicker socks(OR SCUBA/NEOPRENE SOCKS) are worn (in case boots are removed on a final approach), and you have a moderate to higher degree of flexibility. Start stretching now!
shooting Preparation:
Rifle - shots are typically taken under 500 yards.
muzzleloader - SHOTS ARE TYPICALLY TAKEN UNDER 100 YARDS.
archery - SHOTS ARE TYPICALLY TAKEN UNDER 60 YARDS. We highly recommend that archery clients get comfortable shooting from a seated position. stalking and shooting situations can be aWkward, so it is highly desired that you find a position that allows you to stay comfortable for long periods of time. we have found this to be a good alternative for most clients.
IF YOU HAVE A DESIRE TO SHOOT FURTHER, WE REQUIRE THAT YOU COME WITH THE EQUIPMENT AND THE SKILLS TO ACCOMPLISH THE TASK. IT IS ALSO IMPERATIVE THAT YOU PRACTICE SHOOTING FROM MULTIPLE POSITIONS (DO NOT RELY ON A SINGLE SHOOTING POSITION), your equipment has been tuned and shot, you are comfortable with your equipment, you have quality equipment (especially arrows and broadheads - we do not recommend expandable style heads). much of your success lies in your gear and preparation. be prepared. if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to call.
