our Mountain lion hunts are guided by experienced houndsman, russell and owen shrout. russell and owen were trained by long-time professional houndsman, paul eddleman. paul has a long-standing history in colorado for harvesting big cats and running exceptional dogs. their hounds are experienced in both snow and dry ground tracking and have all the equipment necessary to be successful. GPS collars, trucks with dog boxes, Polaris rangers, and snowmobiles can all be a part of any lion hunt.
our Mountain lion hunts are conducted in several units in southeastern and south-central colorado. The mountain lion season is held in the late fall, winter, and early spring in order to take advantage of the snow. Even though the hounds are able to follow a lion on dry ground, snow is useful in finding a track and judging the size of the lion. we focus on harvesting mature toms (males), and unlike other outfitters in the area, we refrain from shooting females, small toms or kittens. traditionally, mountain lion hunts are very challenging and are a very unique sytle of hunting. Your physical conditioning is imperative. please come reasonably prepared and in hiking shape. physical conditioning is your responsibility. all hunters are required to take and pass a mountain lion identification course before buying a license. This course can be found on the the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website at Upon completing the course, you can print a certificate and purchase an OVER-THE-COUNTER license.

we ask that you bring a mid-sized pack that can accommodate an extra jacket, thermal underwear, extra wool socks, food, water, license, cell phone, ammo, weapon, and any other additional belongs you may need. it is alway good to have insulated and waterproof boots, gators, and adequate gloves. we recommend that you consider shooting your lion with a pistol. pistols are light, easy to pack, and will do the job. we have had great success with pistols equipped with laser sighted grips. if you desire to shoot your lion with a bow, please contact russell at 719.568.1213.
our Forest Service Permit and private ground allow us to take numerous hunters each year, however, we typically book 2-3 hunters to ensure that success is high. Our ideal client is someone who has a flexible schedule, can arrive on relatively short notice (24-48 hours), is in somewhat good physical conditioning, and can shoot well. we book a six day hunts but will break up the hunt into two portions if necessary. breaking up hunts helps to ensure success rates. our hunting areas are located 1.5 hrs from Colorado springs and 2.5 hrs from denver. call with any specific questions.
